Adam S and all of the other ADD/ADHD ignorant people like you
I'm 55 I've ADD since I was ten years oldbtw feel free to use your toes and fingers to calculate how long I've lived with this
I have all the personal history that goes along with it :
Busted relationships
Incidents of self medicating
Being accident prone
You name an ADD trait I've done it
If you think that for one moment that discipline solves it then you quite obviously don't know *** you're talking about nor did you know my father.
Had guys like you met my father when he was having a bad day [which was quite often ]you probably would have just crapped in your pants
My father was a tough WWII combat veteran Army sergeant who tried his level best to beat the ADD out of me and discipline me
He did it both both early and often
Try though he may It didn't work although i do have the physical mental scars to prove that it did happen and as you may guess from the tone of this letter all that beating just got me mad
While it's perfectly fine to be ignorant about a subject it's damned near criminal to pawn your obvious ignorance off as truth
Have a nice day

Yes it is a real biological disorder, and the term ADD has only been in use since the late 1970's; before this period it was diagnosis as MBD(minimal brain dysfunction)

Do you know how they treat ADD? With amphetamines. It is like meth and not too dissimilar from cocaine. Do you think giving uppers to a child who is hyperactive would calm them down if they didn't have a chemical imbalance in their brain? Of course it is real and all of these people who say it is a problem with diet and nutrition don't know their butthole from a hole in the ground. They know nothing about psychiatry, nothing about neurology, nothing about anatomy and physiology, and nothing about psychology. They are just some losers who post their ignorant opinions on the Internet.

This is a really tough question - I have seen so many different situations. The problem is that it is too easily diagnosed and prescribed medication. It sometimes is a matter of lack of discipline. It could even be a case of depression. I do believe it exists - but I also believe that it is often misdiagnosed.

No such thing. It is a lack of discipline with children these days. There is so much of a focus on letting kids be kids and letting these kids slide relatively easily when they ***** up. My parents let me have fun when I was young - until I was 11. That's when they started disciplining me and that's when I began to study.

ADD is a term made up by psychiatrists to sell an idea to parents. These parents are so afraid of enforcing a few rules on their kids (i.e. disciplining them when needed), that they would rather shove drugs down their throats. Something is wrong here...we have drugs for everything these days: can't sleep? Take this pill! Can't get it up? Take this pill and be done with it!

Disgusting....

i think that ADD is neither but acute food sensitivity... my cousins daughter had severe behavioural problems and she took her to the naturapath who eliminated wheat and several other things from her diet and now shes a little angel.. kids eat too much processed food that is high in sugar and preservatives and their bodies cant metabolise it.. get back to basics and i think the problem will go away

I'm not sure why you'd think they would study any differently
than any other student. If they are taking their meds to control
their hyperactivity and inability to focus on something for long,
they should be able to study as long as there are no distrac-
tions. In a quiet setting where they wouldn't get distracted by
the TV set and then become glued. It probably is best for a
child to study in the quiet of their room with desk and good
lighting over the desk and relative quiet so he or she can
concentrate. Just like any other student actually. Sometimes
a parent can help with studying for tests and that would be
helpful. But same for any student. My grandson was diagnosed with the latter. And now in his teens they feel he
has a form of Autism, called, Asbergers Disease. He has
to concentrate in the quiet of his room, unless his step dad
wants to help him at the dining room table.
