There are definite blood chemistry indications that it is real, and can actually be helped with better nutrition.

A.D.D is not a real disorder. It must be dicipline. 20 years ago when there was a lot of discipline, there was no such thing.

yes some people do have a more difficult time to concentrate. But i think they don’t need pills they just need to put in the extra effort.

I think that it varies by child. Some children are disciplined properly and motivated and you just can’t catch their attention they need the added help… but in some cases you just got to find what works for the kid without resorting to meds… so i think yeah it is real but over used and not every kid has it like they seem to think.. sometimes a little extra attention will solve the problem without resorting to oh its add lets medicate

ADHD/ADD are both very real condions. I suffer from ADHD and have to take medicine for it. The adderall helps me relax and concentrate on one thing at a time. If i didn’t i would be in big trouble. the teachers said in second grade that at the rates of my behavior Id never make it to my 12th grade graduation. Not only did I graduate. Iwas number 1 in my class. So in my opinion yes these brain disorders are real

If it wasn’t an disorder, it would be A.D but i have to say that it is kind of lack, since they don’t try to focus enough.

i personally think it is a lack of discipline. I believe that parents are the first teachers and if you never taught your children about sitting still and being able to concentrate then I think it is not the teacher or the schools problem.

As a child I was taught loads of things at home before even reaching school so I was well prepared for the classroom. On the other hand my younger siblings did not get the same home training as myself and they are less focused than myself when it comes to school. They are also not as book smart as me and they do not always conduct themselves well in stressful situations, so yes I believe that discipline has a lot to do with A.D.D.

i think that ADD is neither but acute food sensitivity… my cousins daughter had severe behavioural problems and she took her to the naturapath who eliminated wheat and several other things from her diet and now shes a little angel.. kids eat too much processed food that is high in sugar and preservatives and their bodies cant metabolise it.. get back to basics and i think the problem will go away

I do believe it is real for some but is way over diagnosed.

No such thing. It is a lack of discipline with children these days. There is so much of a focus on letting kids be kids and letting these kids slide relatively easily when they ***** up. My parents let me have fun when I was young - until I was 11. That’s when they started disciplining me and that’s when I began to study.

ADD is a term made up by psychiatrists to sell an idea to parents. These parents are so afraid of enforcing a few rules on their kids (i.e. disciplining them when needed), that they would rather shove drugs down their throats. Something is wrong here…we have drugs for everything these days: can’t sleep? Take this pill! Can’t get it up? Take this pill and be done with it!

    Disgusting….

This is a really tough question - I have seen so many different situations. The problem is that it is too easily diagnosed and prescribed medication. It sometimes is a matter of lack of discipline. It could even be a case of depression. I do believe it exists - but I also believe that it is often misdiagnosed.

Do you know how they treat ADD? With amphetamines. It is like meth and not too dissimilar from cocaine. Do you think giving uppers to a child who is hyperactive would calm them down if they didn’t have a chemical imbalance in their brain? Of course it is real and all of these people who say it is a problem with diet and nutrition don’t know their butthole from a hole in the ground. They know nothing about psychiatry, nothing about neurology, nothing about anatomy and physiology, and nothing about psychology. They are just some losers who post their ignorant opinions on the Internet.

Yes it is a real biological disorder, and the term ADD has only been in use since the late 1970’s; before this period it was diagnosis as MBD(minimal brain dysfunction)

Adam S and all of the other ADD/ADHD ignorant people like you
I’m 55 I’ve ADD since I was ten years oldbtw feel free to use your toes and fingers to calculate how long I’ve lived with this
I have all the personal history that goes along with it :
    Busted relationships
    Incidents of self medicating
    Being accident prone
You name an ADD trait I’ve done it
If you think that for one moment that discipline solves it then you quite obviously don’t know *** you’re talking about nor did you know my father.
Had guys like you met my father when he was having a bad day [which was quite often ]you probably would have just crapped in your pants
My father was a tough WWII combat veteran Army sergeant who tried his level best to beat the ADD out of me and discipline me
He did it both both early and often
Try though he may It didn’t work although i do have the physical mental scars to prove that it did happen and as you may guess from the tone of this letter all that beating just got me mad
While it’s perfectly fine to be ignorant about a subject it’s damned near criminal to pawn your obvious ignorance off as truth
    Have a nice day
